NSF is excited to launch a new internal leadership development program (LDP). The NSF LDP is a competitive, merit-based program designed to enhance and grow the leadership capabilities of high-potential NSF employees interested in developing their supervisory or executive skills. The LDP is comprised of two complementary tracks: the LDP for Aspiring Supervisors and the LDP for Aspiring Executives. The LDP for Aspiring Supervisors is designed for employees interested in developing non-executive supervisory skills, and focuses on the OPM Executive Core Qualifications essential for leading teams at the supervisory level. The LDP for Aspiring Executives is designed for employees interested in developing senior executive skills, and focuses on the OPM Executive Core Qualifications essential for leading organizations. Participants who fully apply themselves in this program will gain the supervisory and/or SES knowledge and skills that may help them compete for future leadership vacancies as they become available. Participation in this program does not guarantee a promotion.
Candidates will participate in the program as cohorts and will engage in many of the formal events and activities together. As a cohort, they will have a chance to network and serve as a support system for one another. Participants will engage in a 360 degree assessment, be paired with a leadership coach and mentor and participate in formal training. Participants will also complete a 90-day supervisory or executive detail assignment to further enhance their skills.

Length of Program: The program is designed to take up to two years to complete with 12 months of formal cohort activities and 6-12 months of independent learning/detail. With the exception of the time they will spend on a detail assignment, participants will be expected to continue performing in their current positions while simultaneously participating in the program.
Curriculum: The LDP training and developmental activities are based on adult learning theory and industry best practices, which suggest that individuals learn most effectively through active interaction and application. The curriculum is based on the OPM Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) framework and is uniquely designed to meet NSF’s leadership needs. Click here for more information about the program and an overview of the LDP curriculum.
Detail: All participants will be required to complete a 90-day supervisory or executive detail. This detail may be internal or external to NSF.

The approval must be emailed to LDP@nsf.gov no later than 11:59pm EST on Friday, August 4, 2017. No late or incomplete approval forms will be accepted.
You must be a permanent NSF employee.
You must submit a completed application by July 30 and a completed approval form by August 4. Late or incomplete applications and approval forms will not be considered.
The salary range listed above is representative of the current salary range for permanent NSF employees at the eligible grade levels (GS 12-15 and AD 2-5), and does not imply any impact to program participants’ current or future salaries.
