The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Office of Congressional Information and Publishing (CIP) is seeking a Senior Legislative Analyst to join its Legislative Analysis and Information Section (LAIS). The Office of Congressional Information and Publishing is the organization within CRS and the Library of Congress that is mandated to produce legislative information for the United States Congress. This information is considered to be authoritative for Federal legislation; it is consulted widely by lawmakers, policymakers, academics, and members of the public who are seeking accurate, objective information on both new and amended Federal legislation.
Drawing on his/her knowledge of the Federal legislative process as well as superior editorial skills, the Senior Legislative Analyst will review and edit CRS legislative analyses to ensure the accuracy and quality of both analysis and written expression. In addition, the Senior Legislative Analyst will play an advisory role on operational and programmatic matters and help with the development of innovative products and automated systems for the acquisition and analysis of legislative information.
CRS works exclusively for the United States Congress, providing policy and legal analysis to committees and Members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS has been a valued and respected resource on Capitol Hill for more than a century.
CRS is well known for analysis that is authoritative, confidential, objective, and nonpartisan. Its highest priority is to ensure that Congress has immediate access to the nation's best thinking on public policy issues of interest to its Members and Committees.

Reviews, edits, and coordinates the preparation of legislative analyses, including those of the most highly complex and active measures and omnibus and/or multiple issue measures addressing issues of major national and international importance. Ensures that analyses are based on the most current, reliable, and accurate source material and that the writing is clear and concise. Serves as an authority on the interpretation and meaning of legislative texts and bodies of law or legislation, including their effects on public law.
Applies extensive specialized knowledge in one or more subject fields (e.g., criminal law, environmental law and regulation, international law, etc.) and comprehensive knowledge of the operations, rules, procedures, and organization of the United States Congress to the analysis of Federal legislation.
Mentors and guides legislative analysts in the analysis, research, and writing techniques of the section. Serves as an advisor to the section head and the supervisor on the section's operational and programmatic matters, including the review of section products.
