Peace Corps:
(The corner office can wait. Some corners of the world can't)
Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource—its people. Peace Corps Volunteers serve in 74 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Collaborating with local community members, Volunteers work in areas like education, youth outreach and community development, the environment, and information technology.
Coming from all walks of life and representing the rich diversity of the American people, Volunteers range in age from college students to retirees. Every Peace Corps Volunteer's experience is different. From teaching English to elementary school children in Zambia to launching a computer learning center in Moldova to promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in South Africa to working on soil conservation in Panama, Volunteers bring their skills and life experiences to where they are needed most.

Peace Corps Volunteers are supported by a staff of professional employees who work at the agency's headquarters in Washington, D.C., at our 11 regional recruiting offices, and at our overseas offices throughout the world. Our employees enjoy challenging and interesting jobs.
They provide program and medical support, recruit new Peace Corps Volunteers, manage overseas offices, and provide important administrative services. Peace Corps' employee benefits are the same as those at other federal government agencies and similar to those in the private sector.

Eligibility
Only citizens of the United States may be hired for Peace Corps jobs in the United States and for Country Director or Medical Officer jobs overseas. However, Peace Corps does employ citizens of its host countries and other foreign nationals, in both professional and support positions overseas. Foreign nationals seeking employment with Peace Corps should direct their applications to the Peace Corps Country Director in the country in which they live. All applications for positions with the Peace Corps must specify the applicant's country of citizenship.
Employment Benefits
The Peace Corps offers standard federal employment benefits, such as competitive salaries, 13 vacation days (extended to 19.5 days after just three years of service), 13 days of sick leave, a wide choice of life and health insurance options, retirement benefits, and tax-deferred savings plan similar to a 401(K) savings plan.
Salaries
Salaries at the Peace Corps conform to government-wide ranges approved each year by Congress. All positions have an assigned grade(s) level which sets the pay parameters for the position within the Peace Corps salary scale. Please refer to specific vacancy announcements for the range of available salaries.
Health Insurance
Employees may enroll in one of the many health plans offered to Federal employees. These include both fee-for-service, point of service, and health maintenance organizations. The cost is shared by the government and no physical examination is required.
Life Insurance
Low-cost life insurance is available. Like health insurance, the cost is shared by the government and no physical examination is required.
Retirement
New employees are automatically enrolled in a three-tier system that includes Social Security, a basic pension plan (Federal Employees Retirement System), and a Thrift Savings Plan. Under the Thrift Savings Plan, employees may contribute up to 10 percent of basic pay into a tax-deferred interest account. The government will match the employee's contribution, up to 5 percent of basic pay.

The Adobe Acrobat reader is a freeware product available from Adobe at http://access.adobe.com. There are versions of the Adobe Acrobat reader for several computer platforms. Click here http://access.adobe.com/ to connect to the Adobe Acrobat site. Once there you can obtain the reader for your computer platform. Follow the instructions on the Adobe site to install the reader on your system. Once you have installed the reader you can view or print files that end in .PDF. Some browsers will allow you to configure a "helper" application that will load the Adobe Acrobat reader whenever you click on a file that ends in .PDF. Please refer to the instructions that came with your web browser on how to set up or install a "helper" application. The Adobe site also contains instructions on how to do this. The Windows file manager will also allow you to specify an association so that whenever Windows needs to display a file that ends in .PDF it will load the Adobe Acrobat reader.
